Why Social Trekking

Kalahari sunsets, the smell of freshly brewed coffee, the aroma of fynbos on early morning expeditions, the hikes in extreme weather conditions, the distant roar of a lion, the dunes, different cultures, a spontaneous burst of laughter, a serious moment, my family, my land cruiser - every person I meet, every encounter all of this, is who I am.

I was born in KZN but moved to the Highveld with my parents and stayed there for 30 years. During this time we frequently visited the Kruger National Park and other Game Reserves. In hindsight I now realise that this lifestyle established my love of nature. After leaving school I was employed in the Broadcasting Industry for a period of 20 years where I came into contact with various cultures, enhancing my love of people as well as my interest in Politics and History. I have always dreamt of spending more time experiencing the wonder of nature and when the opportunity presented itself, my family and I relocated to Stellenbosch in the wine lands region of the Western Cape Province.

Social Trekking was born out of our love for sharing our experiences with our friends and family. You will find that on our tours you would be treated as such and when you leave we hope that you will have a yearning to return.
